ROOKIE LEAGUE - BATTING

1. Crease Line Batting

Split participants into groups of 4. Each group has 2 batters, 1 bowler, and 1 fielder. The batters attempt to hit a ball that is either bowled or rolled by an instructor or helper into gaps where there are no fielders and then run between the wickets. Players rotate positions after 6 deliveries.

2. Yes, No, Wait

2 ropes act as crease lines. Participants all start behind one rope. The instructor calls out either ‘Yes’, ‘No’, or ‘Wait’. On Yes, participants must run as fast as they can through to the other crease line. On ‘wait’ participants should move out slowly waiting for further commands. On ‘No’ they must stop where they are immediately. Participants score 1 run each time they reach the opposite crease line.

3. Hit the Gaps

In groups of 3 or 4, batters attempt to hit the ball between cones to score runs. An instructor or adult-helper should feed underarm deliveries to the batter, who scores 1 run for getting the ball through the cones, and 4 runs if the fielders are also unable to cut it off. Rotate batters and fielders every 3 deliveries.

4. Pairs Batting

Split participants into pairs, giving them a bat, a set of stumps, and a ball. One partner stands in front of the stumps with a bat, while their partner underarm bowls or rolls them the ball. Batters attempt to hit the ball straight back to their partner. Players swap roles every 6 deliveries.

5. Six Run Derby

Participants pair up with a partner or an adult helper. From an appropriate distance (safety first), bowlers deliver either a rolled, bounced or in air underarm delivery to the batter who attempts to hit the ball as far as they can in a pre-determined direction.

6. Zone Batting

Participants get into groups of four. One member of each group delivers either a rolled, bounced or in air underarm delivery to the batter who attempts to hit the ball into the furthest zone possible. The two other participants are fielders. After three hits, the players rotate positions.
