Bio

Shebani Bhaskar was born in the USA and began playing cricket at 11, while her father was serving in Kolkata, India with the US Foreign Service. She grew up in an active cricket household, playing regularly at home and on the beaches until she competed in more structured leagues. When the aspiring cricketer was selected to the West Bengal Under-16 team, she was the youngest player on the squad and very excited about the opportunity to take the next step.

Mandus, Virat, and Captain Cool are just a few of the pet pseudonyms given the right-hand opening batter by her teammates for someone who is the epitome of calm in challenging situations. However, she draws her motivation primarily from her family. Charlotte Edwards and MS Dhoni are among Shebani’s favorite international cricketers. The wicketkeeper/batter and part-time spin-bowler enjoys being an opening batter.

One of Shebani’s favorite fascinations with cricket is how teams come together to form a unit, often comprising people from different backgrounds, stories, and experiences. Shebani admires how such diverse groups can work towards a common goal and loves the sport’s unpredictability until the last ball is bowled.

Shebani has represented Atlanta Pearls, CanAm United, Tristate Lynx, Universities Women’s Cricket Club in Sydney, Australia, the University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia, and is very excited to be part of Team USA. She believes that wearing the American colors is an honor and privilege and does not take it lightly. Her favorite USA cricket memory is USA defending 79 against a Queensland XI in the first game of a USA Development Tour of Australia.
