USA Cricket today announced the appointment of James Pamment as the new Interim Head Coach of the USA Men’s National Cricket Team.

The 51 year-old will take over the role for Team USA’s upcoming participation in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup in the Caribbean and Team USA’s next series of One Day International matches in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, where the United States will take on hosts UAE and Scotland in the triangular ODI series in December.

Although born in England, Pamment spent much of his first-class playing and coaching career in New Zealand. He was the Head Coach of Northern Districts in New Zealand and is currently the fielding coach for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He also served as the fielding coach for Team USA at the ICC T20 World Cup Regional Qualifier in Bermuda and played a significant leadership role during the home ODI series in Fort Lauderdale in which Team USA won its first ever ODI on its way to winning three out of four matches.

On the appointment of Pamment as Interim Head Coach, USA Cricket CEO Iain Higgins said, “We are particularly pleased to be able to appoint James Pamment as the Interim Head Coach of the USA Men’s National Team for the coming two series. To have someone of James’ coaching experience and global cricketing knowledge is a fantastic asset for USA Cricket and will ensure we are well led and prepared for the coming months.  We have been extremely impressed with James’ commitment and desire to work closely with the players to provide them with the necessary skills, programmes and guidance that will help them to develop both individually and collectively as a team. In just a short period of time, James has been able to secure the trust and respect of the entire playing squad and we believe that his commitment at this time provide the team with the best possible conditions for it to flourish.”

Expressing his delight at his new role, the new Interim Head Coach James Pamment said, “I am incredibly honored to have been appointed to the role to lead Team USA over the coming months in our important preparatory series in the Caribbean and the crucial One Day Internationals in the USA. I have really enjoyed my involvement with the squad so far and I feel strongly there is huge potential in the group of players that I have worked with. My role will be to help plan for the future of this American side, and to put in place plans to gain crucial ODI wins on the Qualification pathway to the Cricket World Cup 2023 as well as working with the squad over the next few months to help them grow and develop together throughout the remainder of 2019 and beyond.”

On a related note, USA Cricket has elected not to extend the consultancy services of Kiran More, Sunil Joshi, David Saker and Praveen Amre, who were all brought in on a short-term basis alongside Pamment to provide support to the team’s efforts to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2020.  Iain Higgins added, “USA Cricket would like to put on record its thanks to each of Kiran, Sunil, David and Praveen for the support that they provided to the playing group over a short period of time.  It was a disappointing qualification campaign in Bermuda, but the skills and experiences brought by these four individuals speak for themselves, and the players that they worked with during that time are much richer for the experience.”

The recruitment process for a new long-term Head Coach for the men’s team will begin in due course and there will be a formal announcement in the coming weeks.
